Foundation

The Palmetto Military Alliance (“PMA”) was organized in late 2016 as a South Carolina non-profit corporation. PMA was approved as a 501(c)(3) organization exempt from federal income tax under the Internal Revenue Code on February 22, 2017.  Prior to 2020 the activities by the organizers of PMA were primarily devoted to supporting the efforts of the South Carolina Military Base Task Force before its merger into the newly created South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs.

Purpose

The purpose of PMA is to support the U.S. Military installations and personnel located in or near South Carolina in furtherance of their national defense mission to include but in no way limited to efforts to:

  • Provides support to the enhancement of the value of military installations and facilities in South Carolina in furtherance of the interests of national security.
  • Support efforts to enhance the quality of life for military personnel and their families (active, retired, and veterans) located in South Carolina.
  • Encourage interaction between government and the private sector in areas that support the military installations, service members, and their families in South Carolina.
  • Support cooperation among the public and private sectors in South Carolina to maintain and enhance the significant United States Department of Defense presence in South Carolina and the Southeast.
  • Support the work of the military communities in the State to identify issues of concern related to the activities associated with the military presence in those areas and assist in addressing those issues in a manner that protects the military mission of the installation while also recognizing local concerns associated with the activities of the military installation.
  • Undertake advocacy to inform the citizens of South Carolina about the significant role the military presence plays in the state’s economic well-being and to underscore the significant contribution that military retirees and veterans make to enrich the communities in which they live, the companies where they are employed, and to underscore the positive financial contributions they make to the economic well-being of South Carolina.
  • Collaborate with the efforts of the South Carolina Military Base Task Force and similar non-profit entities in furtherance of their missions for the benefit of the military community in South Carolina.
  • Undertake such other activities which are focused on supporting the military installations, service members, veterans and their families in and adjacent to South Carolina as the Board of Directors deem consistent with the organization’s mission and purpose.
